Maternity & Paternity Leave Procedures Kit

How to use
Example output from Maternity & Paternity Leave Procedures Kit

Maternity & Paternity Leave Procedures Kit is a vibe coding kit for Claude Code and Codex. From the due date, builds leave periods and a deadline table for company procedures. It includes 8 fixes for pitfalls the maker hit in real work. Free.

When this helps

You want to move parental-leave paperwork forward, but with no HR specialist, tracking every deadline takes time

What it does

Just by describing the due date and notification date, it works out the periods and application deadlines for maternity leave, childcare leave and postpartum paternity leave, plus a deadline table for what the company must do (individual notice, notice-of-treatment document, exemption from insurance premiums, benefit applications, return-to-work procedures, and more), drafts of the notice and forms to hand to the employee, and a company-wide deadline ledger. The tools check the input and flag contradictory periods or mentions of health conditions with ✗ or △ for confirmation. Whether and when to take leave is always the employee's decision; the kit never determines eligibility or benefit amounts.

The fixes baked into this kit

  1. Assuming the premium-exemption application can only be filed "during leave," then panicking after missing itChecking the Japan Pension Service's procedure page showed the deadline is actually during leave or within one month from the end date. The kit uses this deadline and also notes that a late application can still be filed with a statement of reasons and attendance records.
  2. Filing the maternity-leave application before birth can require an amendment if the birth date differs from the due dateTo avoid the amendment, the recommended default is to file after the birth. An amendment is only issued when the leave was already filed before the birth and the birth date turned out different.
  3. For babies born earlier than the due date, calculating postpartum paternity leave from the birth date alone shortens itChecking against a Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare example showed the period must run from the birth date up to the day after 8 weeks from the due date. The kit calculates it this way and includes the ministry's example in its self-test.
  4. Required fields were missing from the application form and notice-of-treatment documentThe ministry's model in-house forms include fields such as the planned return date, reason for a late application, and prior leave count, plus the post-return base salary and remaining paid leave on the notice-of-treatment document. These were added. Employees who applied before birth also now get a "receive the birth notification" item on the deadline table.
  5. The individual notice omitted that leave is available regardless of a spouse's employment statusThe ministry's model notice wording includes points such as "available even if your spouse isn't working" and "available for fixed-term employees," which were missing. These were added, and the intent-confirmation options were split into four, with "not planning to take leave" no longer listed first.
  6. Managing maternity and childcare leave as a single status makes it easy to miss a second exemption filingChecking against an actual staff-management system showed it tracks only one return date, so the day leave shifts from maternity to childcare leave gets lost. The kit issues maternity and childcare leave as separate periods, files the exemption as a separate procedure for each, and notes that benefits are still paid for up to 10 working days a month (or 80 hours) during leave.
  7. Partial pay during leave can reduce the benefit amount without anyone noticingChecking the payroll system showed a threshold where paying wages during leave reduces the benefit. The kit flags this with △ at the 13%/80% threshold (the amount paid is up to the company).
  8. Health-related notes stayed in saved records, while short words got wrongly flagged as health-related and erasedA note such as "severe morning sickness, went to the clinic" was staying in the saved copy as-is. Conversely, short strings inside other words were being erased as if health-related. The kit now only scans free-text fields such as notes and reasons, not short exact words.

The first three decisions

  1. Who to contact for notifications (suggested: HR)
  2. Health insurance provider (suggested: Japan Health Insurance Association)
  3. Whether there is a labor-management agreement on childcare leave (fine to say "none" if unsure)

What you need

  • No extra costNode.js 18 or laterNeeded to run the kit's tools. Nothing else needs to be installed.
  • No extra costExcel or NumbersUsed to view the deadline ledger (Excel file).

How to use

Just paste this into your AI.

I want to use the nice to have kit "Maternity & Paternity Leave Procedures Kit". Follow https://nicetohave.app/en/g/PF8QU7J9-•••••••••• and set it up.

Works the same in Claude Code or Codex.
Read what this tells your AI to do, before you paste it

If you would rather take the files yourself

Paste the line above and your AI fetches it. If your AI cannot fetch it, or you would rather download it yourself, start here.

Download the kit as a zip

  1. Unpack the zip you downloaded
  2. Open the resulting folder in Claude Code or Codex (in VS Code, "Open Folder")
  3. Type "start building with this kit". The instructions are inside (Claude Code reads CLAUDE.md, Codex reads AGENTS.md)

FAQ

Does the kit file the paperwork or submit it for me?
No. It produces the deadline table and drafts only; you file electronically, by mail or at the counter yourself. It does not produce the official forms themselves.
Can I treat the benefit amounts as final?
No, they are estimates. Hello Work decides the actual amount. The caps change every August 1, and the kit's figures are valid through July 31, 2027; after that date a notice appears at the top of the results page (it does not stop you).
Some employees already have procedures done — can I start using the kit partway through?
Yes. Enter the date you started using it, and any procedure due before that date is treated as already done.
Can I exclude part-timers with under a year of tenure?
Only if a labor-management agreement allows it. Even then, the recommendation is still "no need to exclude them"; if there is no agreement, the kit says nothing about excluding anyone.
Does this work for companies with their own health insurance association (kenpo kumiai)?
Yes, but how to file the maternity allowance and premium exemption can differ by association, so check with your health insurance association.
